MaYita: an spiritual music artist

The story of Maya Martínez “MaYita”, speaks of a profound love for art and the spiritual power of music—an unshakable passion that has shaped her life from a very young age.

MaYita’s musical journey began at the age of 9, marking the start of a lifelong dedication to the study, performance, recording, and composition of original works. Her thirst for musical knowledge led her on a continuous exploration through the realms of music therapy, classical music, jazz, fusion, and music production.

Born to the pulse of Colombia’s lush heart and raised amidst the vibrant rhythms of New York City, MaYita weaves into her music a rich multicultural and diverse identity, infusing her compositions with a variety of influences and sounds from across the Americas.

Still quite young, her search for musical wisdom led her to Havana, Cuba, where she immersed herself in the traditions of classical and Latin music. She later honed her skills at the renowned Brooklyn Conservatory of Music, diving deeper into the vibrant sounds of jazz.

Her deep love for music production, nurtured through years of study and exploration, has further expanded her artistic vision and continuously fuels her creativity.

In 2005, Maya’s path reached a major milestone when she signed with Nacional Records. Teaming up with her bandmate, they released their debut album All Good Things, critically acclaimed under the name Pacha Massive.

This musical gem reached far and wide, gracing prestigious stages such as Madison Square Garden, Central Park’s Summer Stage, and Celebrate Brooklyn in Prospect Park. Maya shared these stages with Latin music legends like Bomba Estéreo, Café Tacuba and Aterciopelados, among others.

A soldier of sound

MaYita’s life journey took an extraordinary turn when she enlisted in the United States Army, where she served as a sound engineer for the 78th Army Band in New York for eight years.

Midway through her military service, she achieved a historic milestone: she became the first person to graduate as a sound engineer from the Army School of Music, leaving a lasting legacy of dedication and contribution.

As a “Soldier of Sound,” Maya ventured deep into music therapy at Monclair University, exploring the power of musical intention and its profound effectiveness as a tool for clinical healing.

Her quest led her to study medicine music with tribes and communities across Central and South America over the past 10 years, cultivating a deep understanding of music’s healing power.

In 2024, she gave birth to her personal project MaYita Music, where—guided by the inspiration of powerful women and the harmonizing force of music—she works toward the rebirth of new nations, communities founded on peace, love, and cultural memory.

Through this project, MaYita has received permissions, blessings, and initiations from various communities and tribes around the world—highlighting that many of these processes have been musical ones: the sharing not only of rituals, words and initiations but of traditions, songs, melodies and linages.

With her two albums, MAYA (2024) and SOMOS (2025), MaYita Music seeks to unite voices and feelings to co-create a world where all beings may flourish in sacred balance.

Thus, this guardian of peace and love welcomes the full spectrum of human expression, challenging obsolete systems in search of a new humanity.

Rooted in the legacy of powerful women leaders and guided by the harmonizing force of music, I walk the path of remembrance, healing, and unity. Inspired by those who shaped their civilizations with wisdom, courage, and love, I honor their spirit by stepping into my role as a guardian of peace.

Through MaYita Music, Somos Sanctuary and sacred service, I work to birth new nations and communities grounded in peace, love, and cultural memory. My mission is to connect diverse lineages and awaken the heart of humanity, ensuring the continuity and revitalization of our shared heritage.

With grace and courage, I unite voices to co-create a new world where all beings can thrive in sacred balance. Through the unifying language of music, we bridge generations and cultures, planting seeds of harmony for the future.

Together, we rise—guided by the rhythm of truth and the vibration of love.

We meet in the medicine and spiritual music.
